¡Hola! – Hello! My name is Jennifer Bodholdt, a true lover of language and culture, and your Spanish teacher with Proximity Learning for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year! I am so excited to teach Spanish because I believe in the power that language learning has to offer. There is a Czech proverb that says, “Those who know many languages live as many lives as the languages they know.” It is my goal for students to discover what it means to them to be bilingual – and ultimately, to feel empowered by the knowledge & wisdom obtained from this important 21st century skill.
Although my formal name is Ms. Bodholdt, my students always call me “Ms. B.”. In Spanish, I am known as Señorita B. My teaching certification is in Spanish for grades Preschool through Grade 12 from the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have had the pleasure of teaching several grade levels ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade, with majority of my experience in secondary education. I have taught Spanish 1, 2 and 3 in the middle & high school setting, as well as beginning level Spanish in the elementary classroom. This is my 2nd year with Proximity Learning.
I am a proud native of Washington, D.C. and a 6th generation Washingtonian – a rare find in such a transient metropolitan area. I currently reside in Fairfax County, located in Northern Virginia, just 14 miles from our nation’s capital. I attended George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages in Spanish (2010) and a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, with a Concentration in Spanish (2014). During my undergraduate studies, I spent an academic semester abroad in Madrid, Spain in 2009. It was extremely challenging, yet incredibly rewarding all at the same time. A true immersion experience! From this moment on I knew I wanted to share my passion for Spanish language & culture with others.
